Still new at this tractor stuff. Does it hurt to active the PTO if nothing is attached?

I have a new BX 2380 and am new to the tractor world. There is a lever to have the PTO either underneath, rear or both. Is the a way to turn it off completely? I did not see anything in the manual about it.
