    B7000 Oil Dilution

An oil sample will tell quite a bit if you have access to such a facility locally. It can determine if it is fuel dilution with a simple closed cup flash test and the additive packages of hydraulic oil is usually quite a bit different than engine oil. Up here it runs $17.00 to do a sample. Most...

    small chainsaw recommendations

Another vote for the 170. I have three saws, the 170 is the smallest, lightest, easiest to handle (also the go to for 90% of my cutting needs). Love that little saw.

Our Stuck In The Mud Thread

So what do you do if your front pasture has large tire ruts in it? We bought our property with them and would like to patch up those areas. Is running a disk or tiller the best option? How long before the prairie grasses come back?

    Fall vs Spring Service

I service in spring as my equipment sits unused quite a bit in the winter and it goes from +5 down to -45 over the course of the season. The cyclic temperature changes can cause moisture build up in compartments due to condensation so I prefer to start the working season with fresh oil and new...

    Engine Oil

Generally if you are going to start at cold temperatures and extended oil changes then synthetic is a good choice, if not a good quality 15W-40 and change a little more often.

    Grease question??

I have found Lucas grease to be extra sticky, hard to wash off even with a pressure washer (exactly what you want your grease to do). It is a very good grease.

    Grease question??

A good synthetic oil based grease in lithium soap works very well. Some cheaper greases allow the oil to come out of suspension plus it won't flow at lower temperatures, it will extrude, crack off and fall out of the joint.

Is diesel pickup truck synthetic oil proper for our tractors?

I didn't say anything bad about Amsoil. I love the stuff. Anything that takes gear oil gets Amsoil Extreme Gear because it works extremely well and lasts forever. I only have to check / top up level every service and sample. The stuff never wears out. I've just never seen a temperature reduction...

Is diesel pickup truck synthetic oil proper for our tractors?

This is very true, approximately 50% of engine cooling is performed by the engine oil. The thinner oil reducing rotational drag is true but this has little to nothing to do with the 0W, 5W or 10W rating of the oil once the engine comes up to temperature. It is completely related to the 100ºC...
