Went out to the barn (unheated, no electricity and -15 right now). Pre-Heated the M9 for 20 seconds, cranked her one turn and she fired right up.

Blowing a ton of vapor and banging and clanging a bit but running just fine. Checked the fuel (it's full) and it's fine too. Thank goodness for Power Service.

Car, not so good. Struggled a bit and then fired up.

Warming them both up. I have the base idle on the M9 just above tickover.

I'll let the tractor run for an hour or so.

Never ceases to amaze me. Probably attributable to that big Group 31 Interstate I have in the battery tray as well. 1350 CCA helps to I'm sure.

Probably also has to do with the Rotella T6 in the crankcase and the Archoil additive I use as well.

Have to go shopping today.

It's cold but the Kubota seems immune to it.:)

Did you take the Kubota shopping then? :D

Won’t have to worry about car door dings.

Re: -15 and started right up.....

Simply stated, you went outside for no good reason, just to be warming up a tractor, that you didn't even need to use?

That just sounds like a complete waste of time, useless polluting of the air, sad use of fuel and needlessly spending of money!

What you didn't think it would warm up in the spring when you really need to waste fuel with it? :(

Not really. I need the tractor tomorrow to get a dead cow out of the pasture that you really needed to know.... Unless you want to come here and do it for me?

Didn't want to go out tomorrow morning and have it not start...

Betcha you really wanted to know that didn't you

NIW don't let the jackasses get under your skin, we couldn't get along without you and appreciate all the time and work you put in. Not sure what is bringing them out of the woodwork lately.

Friendly advice: Don't be pulling the "mod card" as that means nothing in the real world. On the other hand, don't let people rile you up either as life is too short. (Also, the term snowflake is just an insult directed towards millennials. Lol.)

Fair statement. I had intended on doing it today in reality but the renderer cannot come until tomorrow so I let it lay. It's frozen solid anyway so it's not like I'd be 'stretching her neck' pulling her. Frozen has it's advantages. He has a neat setup with a tandem axle straight truck and a tilt body with a winch inside. Tilts the body back, hooks the carcass up to the winch and off it goes in the box. Raises the box back up on the chassis and it's gone and so is my 300 bucks.

Told me once he did an elephant for the Detroit Zoo. Had to cut the legs off the elephant with a chainsaw to get the carcass in the box, then had the zoo keeper load the legs with a forklift. Being the inquisitive person I am, I asked it it was messy. He said not at all. Said once rigor sets in, everything becomes pretty rubber like and a chainsaw is the way to go....

Reminded me of the low budget 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' movie when he told me the story.

I knew you wanted to know that tid bit...

I'm glad your are a moderator in as much as you have a sense of humor, most of the time.:D

Predicted to be slightly warmer tomorrow but not above freezing which is good. Dead cows tend to start stinking pretty quick. Done a few in the summer and I'm glad I have a cab then. No stink like rotten cow stink.

Polar Vortex...

Some folks need to find something better to do besides sitting in front of a screen in the winter.

Keep warm, sheep...;)

The clatter and bang is why I count myself lucky that the '77 L185DT has a compression release knob. It's nowhere near as bitterly cold in Oregon as it has been in a bunch of places lately, but I preheat, pull the knob, give the starter the juice and wait for the oil pressure light to turn off before I release the compression release knob. Fires up with a bit more smoke than a warm weather start due to the extra injected fuel, but I'll take that over spinning a relatively dry 42 year old crankshaft in its journals!

So is an insult directed toward millennials OK? An insult is an insult.

dlundblad, you can say what you want about moderators and what it means in the real world.

If we didn't have moderators that keep some control of what goes on on this forum it would be no different then about 85% of other forums, a lot of BS with no substance. I can direct you to a forum that has over 125 pages gabbing about how to remove a drain plug from the transmission of a tractor. Or a welding forum where guys enjoy belittling each other.

Orange Tractor Talk stays above that crap, and it's attributed to the moderators. You might be a bit more respectful, and if that's too difficult to do look for your questions answered else-wear.

With all due respect D2, I think Wolfman was a little over the edge in his post and was insulting other peoples posts. It’s no different than the people he was complaining about and being a Moderator doesn’t give one any more rights than the next person. This is not the first time Wolfman has done this recently.

Interestingly, I have one on both the M's (red knob below the key start) but I have never used it. Went from 15-40 Rotella to 5-40 T6 Rotella and that alone made a big difference is starting. That and the Archoil Nano-Borate additive I use in all my diesels and Blackstone is good with it too. My TBN numbers are always good on the return analysis. Never worried about dry journals either. The boundary film is always there no matter how long it sits idle.

Re: -15 and started right up.....

Hope everyone enjoyed my little missive about the elephant and no, I did not make that up. Exactly as it was told to me by my carcass removal guy.

Myself, I have no issue with Wolfman, in fact, I enjoy his comments. Being a moderator is a thankless (and uncompensated) job. I moderate on an unrelated forum, only reason I do is, I was asked to and I do it infrequently. Someone has the keep the posters in line. No one ever reads a 'User Agreement', sort of like reading an owners manual, why bother. Just wing it and ask questions (like the drain plug thing) because someone will always answer.

But then that is how it works today. People cannot go to the toilet without asking for instruction.....lol

It's wintertime and people get 'short' in the winter. Has to do with being shut in and the cold and all that and come spring, everyone becomes more cheerful and easy going again.

This is an interesting forum. I tend to avoid the dummy posts. I already know where the drain plug(s) are and how to remove them and while my maintenance regimen may not be yours, mine works for me and has for many. many years.

If people just read their owners manuals and used their noodles for something other than spacing their ears apart, half of the (what I consider inane) comments on here would vanish. Of course that isn't how it works today. I sometimes wonder what people did before the Net was here or how they managed to exist without a steady stream of answers.

Wolfman's comments were directed towards me and I had no issue with them at all. In fact, I enjoyed them. I like people who are actually alive and thinking. Far as I'm concerned, he does an excellent job considering it's uncompensated. I'm pretty sure he has better things to do (like run his business) other than babysitting posters.

I'll leave it at that but far as Wolfman is concerned, he's all good (excellent in fact) far as I'm concerned.

Re: -15 and started right up.....

I've gotten some heat for my comments with regard to moderators.

From my perspective this forum was originally a source of hopeful information on a Kubota tractor I could find very little info. on anywhere. One of the first comments I got here was, "hope it a labor of love, 'cause it's probably never going to run." But someone gave me some information and I kept working on the project. Because no one else on the forum (at that time) was familiar with the tractor, one person kept giving me ideas and solutions. This person also gave me necessary help with hydraulic connection for a off brand loader to fit this old tractor.

So fast forward a bit. That person is now moderator (without pay, I might add) and spends many hours a week answering various questions, sending links to members wanting a WSM, helping with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical. questions. Also has to look at every link posted on the forum in completion to be sure it's content is permissible (without porn, profanity, whatever). And members send PM's in bunches. This all takes time.

He has a life outside this forum, including building a home and an income producing career, and maybe having a meal with his wife! I personally don't know of others on this forum who would fill in, or even want to, do what he does.

Without direction this forum won't exist as we know it. I'd like to keep it going.

Here's the tractor.

Re: -15 and started right up.....

Fired my BX up this morning for some snow removal...
Hasn't been started in about 3 weeks. Central Indiana so I've had the -15 to -20 temperatures here too....
Fired with no issue.... Awesome little machine.... Got the job done and put back in the garage until next time.
