I was cutting grass in what in what i thought was a safe area of the yard, i hit something that caused the tractor to cut off. It will not turn on now currently, i have tried the peddle trick, i made sure it was not in neutral, disengaged the Pto. It makes a odd humming sound when i try to start it and only the battery light and oil pressure light come on. I checked the oil and it is fine and the battery seems to work.

This tractor is brand new with less than 8 hours old, and i am new owner. I am sure i am missing something blatent and i am ready to be embarssed.

Thanks in advance.

Did you hit something hard enough to stop the motor?
Pto lever is fully disengaged and any drive is neutral?

yes the motor stopped completely, once i tried to start it a few times I took PTO drive shaft from the mower off the tractor. I checked all the basics (PTO in the off position, tractor not in neutral and wiggled the HTS peddle back an forth).

Put it in Neutral with parking brake on. Step on clutch, still just lights dash you still have a safety open.

What did you hit, was it very solid and stopped you very suddenly?

If it stopped very suddenly it could have done some damage causing it not to start.

If it a DT (Geared) or an HST (Hydrostatic)?

Its a hydrostatic, and i think the buzzing is coming from the battery area when i am trying to start it. I cant move it right now as it is hooked up to a quick hitch but it looks like it hit a mound of dirt. I have driven over that area several times with a zero turn. It was a sudden stop.

Do you have a clutch on your implement for the PTO or a shear pin? If a clutch, has it been set so it will slip if needed ?

Buzzing while trying to crank- battery/connections on battery.
I have had a couple of basic"L" tractors that did something similar to this and the problem turned out to be a poor electrical connection where the ground cable from the battery attaches to the frame. there is a plate that goes under the battery that is sandwiched between the battery cable and the weldment on the front frame. It appears like the plate isn't making a connection to the weldment so you are relying on the threads on the bolt to conduct the power from the cable to the frame. That should be enough! but it sometimes isn't! My "fix" , rather than go to all the work of taking off that plate and cleaning it all up for a better connection, is to simply install a longer bolt and sand off the bottom of the weldment then install a nut onto the protruding threads. Fixes them right up, and so far they have stayed fixed.
To test if this is the problem you could connect a booster cable onto the negative battery terminal and the other end onto a good ground ( loader bolt etc.) It should fire right up then if this is the problem. Nothing to do with hitting anything and stalling but maybe the sudden impact jarred it loose?
Just something to check!

Problem fixed.

When the PTO was in the off position it was not actually engaging the switch to the off position. All i had to do was move the lever back a bit more in the off position and it fired right up.

Thanks to everyone for the help. unnamed.jpg
