Older X900 with high hours recently had a day or two of being difficult to shift into high and since then will only go in neutral or reverse. I've seen lots of discussions about problems with the 900 transmissions but not much about the X900. Bought a shop manual but it doesn't seem to have much about the linkages or any troubleshooting methodology. There was some mud on the linkage but that has been cleaned off.

Does the X900 have a similar fork linkage as the 900? Ideas for things to try? Thanks!

Sometimes the gear-teeth are not aligned, and it will be helpful to momentarily “goose” (momentarily apply accelerator) while in neutral....then the transmisison will shift into gear.

The accelerator on an X900, while it does apply throttle to the engine, primarily is actually an HST pedal that commands movement of the transmisison. After the vehicle begins to move the accelerator pedal then adds engine-rpm to match the speed/work-load of the transmission.

Also, the brake pedal has a bowden cable that runs to the transmisison shift-pressure bellcrank on the tops-rear of the transmission. If the cable is out of adjustment the hyd-valve will not release pressure and the transmission will not want to shift.

Pressing the pedal should actuate the pressure-valve and allow shifting.

Hope this helps.

Any updates to report? I'm having a similar problem. Pressure relief seems to be working correctly. Wondering if the linkage is out of adjustment? It will only go about 11mph in low and 15 in high. Barely pulled itself up a tiny hill
