What Kind of Dog is This?

About 20 years ago, while walking on the island of Shikoku Japan, I met this woman and her dog. We may have talked for a minute but I don’t remember. I probably asked her for directions. I’m guessing that’s why she’s standing so I could take a picture of her and her dog.

The dog was extremely light on its feet. When it ran it looked almost like it was floating rather than actually running like a normal dog. It was very gentle. More than this I don’t know…

Anybody know what breed this might be?

Is that like an off brand greyhound? Other than the height and length of hair, it looks greyhoundish. Face is pointy like one also.

They almost went extinct after the Russian revolution due to their associations with upper-classes and royalty/czarist connections.

They are very intelligent and therefore difficult to keep their attention on boring tasks.

My neighbors had two back when I lived in town and they needed a larger place to run. They’re fast.

I had never heard of a Borzoi before this. I thought the same thing and searched for long haired greyhound and the Borzoi popped up.

First thing I thought was a Greyhound relative as well… Very amazing dog. I wish I had a video of how it would run, or perhaps glide over the ground would be a better description!
