Weep hole protection MX6000 ?

Please see attached pic. I read that this little fancy drain plug doubles as a weep hole. I have 2 questions. 1) Why does a weep hole need a flimsy little plunger stuck in it ? 2) Does anyone have a solution for protecting that little plunger ? I operate a bush hog as a land clearing device and as such I am running over brush and bushy little trees that seem completely dedicated to finding the weakest link in the undercarriage. Thanks,

It "doubles" as a weep hole? So what's the other function?

I've had two MX tractors, the first one for a year and the current one for four years and have done lots of brush hogging type work in thick stuff that has been taller than the cab at times and have never damaged the plunger. Could it be damaged, maybe, but I don't see it as being inevitable.

The plunger is there to keep the hole open (clear) so any moisture will drip out of the housing. It can be pushed up to see if there is something clogging the hole. But generally just the natural movement of the plunger will be all that is needed.

If the plunger gets damaged then the hole might get clogged up by debris, grease, oil and any moisture that gets in the housing will stay in the housing.

I commonly mow stuff like the below. This particular spot (a sewer right of way) is primarily sweet gum ranging from about 5’ to 8’ tall. Never had a problem. Never heard of anyone having a problem with the little jiggly thing.

Have heard of folks putting aftermarket guards on the filters. Example. Never heard of a guard for the jiggly thing or need for one.
