Well.... I ended up with a California Air, 4 hp, 22 gallon with auto drain.
I tried to speak to Qunicy, they had no interest in talking about the 3.5 Hp ones, just big commercial ones. So the sour taste had me move on.
California claimed real quiet, low draw. Spoke to me on the phone, answering dumb questions. So I ordered it via Home Depot. Only needed a 15 amp 240V circuit, no neutral!!!!. I wired a 20 amp and used 12/3 instead. I have a remote switch and a real bright indicator (compressor is on the second floor of my shop) and set it up to have the two (red, black) legs and ground, then a neutral stashed if in the future.... I also put in two outlets on that circuit, 120V and used the neutral. Just in case I have a low draw item I need activated when the compressor is running.
Auto drain 'spits' aggressively. Has a 3' ptfe hose into a gallon plastic jug, shot it across the room! Extended the hose about 10' and that 'softened' the blow and sound.When I put in a sink, I'll have the piping run into the drain.
I think for my uses (minimal 1/2 rattle gun, filling tires, and blowing things clean) it will be adequate. My old Craftsman, has 1/2 the cfm at 90 psi this new one has.
Did I mention, it is quiet? Though I ordered some isolation pads just to see if I can quiet it further.,Interesting in a lot of sound deadening is provided by the four air intake mufflers. Though twin motor and four cylinders at 1,600 rpm has to factor too.
