These white 250 gallon tanks with the metal bars around them that people use for water and oil storage, of which I have one. Does anyone know what kind of thread is on the outlet fitting?? It measures 1 1/2 inch but it's not pipe thread. I want to put an L fitting on the end of it.

My guessaguage is not working right. I think it's going to be an 2 1/4. It's just a little bit bigger than the large holes in a 55 gal barrell and they are 2 inch. It doesn't look like pipe thread though. I'll see if I can find a 2 1/4 elbow tomorrow.

bulldog, I have 2 inch street elbow from one of my 55 gal barrels. The femaleside will not screw onto the tank outlet and the cap that came off the tank outlet is bigger than the male threads on the street elbow.

The hole in the tank where the ball valve is a weird thread best my memory .

I just use one of the Fernco flexible rubber boots connectors to change to pvc. I forget the size but I think 2" will clamp right on.

What an education. The tank has that "buttress" thread. On that is screwed on a ball valve that accepts a fire hose quick attach. On the end of that is threads that appear to be 2 1/4 standard thread. "Appears" because I never found anything to fit it except the cap that came with it. The hole (inside diameter) was just slightly smaller than 2 1/4 inch. I took a male nipple, cut slots in the threads and screwed it in , makeing threads. I was then able to screw in a street elbow. That worked.

To further your quest for more useless knowledge those tanks are called IBC totes or Intermediate Bulk Container. The idea behind them are to carry more liquid then 55 gallon drums and easier to transport and are stackable. Common sizes are 275 gallon and 330 gallon
