On the TG1860G my brother-in-law just gave me I had a problem yesterday that I can't figure out.

While I was out mowing and the small belt from the PTO to the deck came off. Just before it came off it smelled like something burning. I put the belt back on and as soon as I engaged the PTO, the belt came off again.

I can't find anything that looks wrong, but since I just got this machine, I don't really know what to look for.

Thanks for any help.

if the deck belt & 3 blade spindles rotate OK, then maybe the idler pully for the belt that pops off has seized. check that it rotates freely, and remember that it will be on the left side of the belt, not on the right side.

Yes, everything rotates freely by hand and the belt won't have any tension if the tension pully isn't on the left side.

The only thing that I can think of is that one of them binds under tension. I am going to try and check that.

Well, I now think I know why my BIL gifted me this mower.

I got the PTO belt to stay on and now the drive belt came off but chewed the belt some in the process.
