What tempture does a thermostat open on BX 2360? Is 212 A high reading at the sending unit while mowing tall grass. Doesnt seem to be hot but guage is almost to the red. Can anyone give me some ohm readings for the sending unit at different temptures?

Tempture readings with a IR

Targets with a flat black surface give the least error-prone readings. Shiny surfaces are the most error-prone.

212 would be about right if pushing the engine at cutting high grass.

I would check your pull out screen and blow back through your radiator with compressed air carefully.

Here is some useful info from the BX2360 WSM.

Measuring the resistance of the sending unit when your machine seems hot and comparing to the above chart will tell you a lot.

Here is the requested info on the thermostat.

It starts to open around 162 F and should be fully open at 185 F.

IR guns can be useful in terms of diagnosis. i.e. which cylinder is not firing as indicated by a colder exhaust port. However, in terms of producing an accurate "Real World" temp., far less so as Hagrid points out.

If your rad core is clearly clean and is not plugged with debris, I would not worry until the rad cap starts to relieve pressure.

The cooling systems capacity to remove heat increases with increasing temps so you may find at some point it just stabilizes.

Thanks for all the replys. It doesnt seem hot, no gurgling and no hot smells. I will recheck for blockages with the radiator.

hmm...mowing tall grass... so you're WORKING the tractor, it'll run 'kinda hot'. Odds are you're driving slow and revs are close to PTO speed. My BX23S does the same when doing heavy BH work.
Kinda the 'nature of the beasts'...

Grabbed my Fluke and IR and headed to the barn. Pulled the battery to find crud mostly in the far corners. Let my air compressor pump up but not all the way and blew backwards then grabbed the water hose. I checked the sending unit. My meter went to k ohms.
I mowed like I did yesterday and the guage showed a little more than half but ambient temp was cooler than yesterday. So i headed to even thicker grass and a pretty steep hill and pushed her about as much as the finish mower could handel, FDR 1660. It got no closer than 3/4 to the red.
I tried to IR but in daylight and running didnt get anything rliable. I did rehook up the Fluke and saw something like 64 ohm. Gotta believe i made progress.
I saw the rectangular hole that is down there next to the deck that is allowing dust to be sucked up into the raidiator, it might get sealed.
