Break out the multi meter and check fuses.

Well now that's too simple! LOL

I found one bad one but that wasn't it. I can't find the fuses on the manual so I gotta look for that on the net. I bet it's just missing the fuse. It's an older L4200.

Upon further inspection I found the fuse. I replaced it although it wasn't bad and now I hear a click when I turn it off. I can see the solenoid click forward but not enough to shut it off. Is there an adjustment that can be done? The relay and solenoid are new.

Some have an adjustable shaft,
Can you post a picture of it? and how it stops or mounts to the motor, There are too many types of setups for me to guess.

Got it fixed. There was an adjustment nut on the end of the wire for the pull stop. I adjusted that and also found the plastic linkage for the solenoid was loose and obviously needed a washer to straighten it out. The only way to get it right was to pull the plastic piece off and put washers behind it. Works well now but it more sputters to a stop rather than a smooth shutdown. I think I need to adjust the stop nut on the pull stop to be sure I'm not starving the engine a bit as I think I could have it a touch too tight.

Seems like it was a fuse as well as the washers that fixed it. Thanks for the help!

I looked it up and you have the same solenoid and set-up as mine.
The solenoid is not adjustable, make sure that all the parts move freely, Does the cable stop pull freely or does it stick, make sure that part 110 slides on the cable freely?.
How much slack is there between the stop cam (40) and the solenoid, if it's too much you might need a new cam or put a piece of tubeing over the solenoid pin to take up the slack.

EDIT: Glad you got it working!

I ended up putting another washer (50) on the other side of the cam. That reduced the slack. The slack was actually side to side rather than in the normal direction of travel of the solenoid operation.

I like the tubing idea. I'm going to loosen the stop cable a bit and put the tubing in as you describe. That may kill the engine quicker with the key.

Thanks again and I'll report back.

Got it working perfectly. I loosened up the stop cable and took the solenoid off. I didn't have tubing so I used electrical shrink tubing and put about 4 on it. I fond when putting the solenoid back on that there is a little adjustment left and right in the bolts so I moved it as far right as it will go. It stops darned near immediate with the key now.

I also figured out just as I was putting the solenoid back on that I could remove the side cowling with the FEL on. I wish I'd have figured at out earlier!

Thanks for the help.

If you want to fix it permanently, the part #40 the plastic stop cam, can be replaced for cheap #15471-60162 $3.61, can get it here. ;)

I may just do that.

By the way, I've got a used but working stop relay. If anyone wants it you pay shipping via Paypal and it's yours.
