As a visitor to many forums, i have seen many threads about tools. Except here.
As my name states, i have a problem with tools.
So as days go by and needs for odd or hard to get tools arise, i am forced to use my imagination.
So im wondering how to remove a broken stud in close quarters- no chance of finding an angle drill so i need to improvise.

This is a 1/4" extension i modified to fit into a drill chuck. Next post will show exactly what i mean.

Turns out it works very well, sad part is bolt is very hard and a small bit with lots of careful pressure and its going very slow.

In case you are wondering what im fixing- its a truck.

So feel free to add your home brewed favorite special tool used to get the job done when you are in a bind.

And when you do make something, someone will say "That's not what it is for" or "It wasn't made to do that."

Re: Why didnt i think of that

Looks like someone else uses Torx bits as screw extractors.

Trouble getting a drop of lube in the right place?
I poured a little sea foam in a flip top bottle, a piece of 14 ga wire insulation on a wd-40 noodle and slid it into orfice on bottle
image.jpg

Keeps me from spraying stuff where i dont want it. And i was out of deep creep-same as sea foam.
Same insulation and a second noodle to double the length. Works great!

I needed a tiny depth micrometer for a critical measurement down deep inside of a large machined assembly, so I bought a .001 resolution micrometer barrel & made a little mini depth mike & case.

I ain't got a picture of it, but once upon a time a buddy had a mercedes, with either a starter, or an exhaust donut, I can't remember which, but the 2 bolts were horizontal. No lift, at the shop, not that it would have helped, but we scrounged up every 3/8 long extension, and several wobble drive ones, and assembled piece by piece about a 12 foot long extension, to tighten up them 2 or 3 bolts, from behind the car...:D:D

Well,i wont be tossing my old taps away. Great ideas. Needed to knurl some pins for a clutch. Had to borrow a knurler.
I have had the need for 4 or so feet of extension on many occasions. Just dont care for the twist when trying to break bolts loose.

Still working on my telescopic flex head adjustable lighted air powered box end ratchet. Ill be rich!!

I can see the need for a screwdriver like that. My alternative was a tiny short one.

One of my duties at work was the maintenance, repair, & calibration of fiber optic filament fusion splicers. They have a pair of tiny ultrasonic solvent tanks for pre & final cleaning of the fiber before splicing, and the tanks are seated in rings on the top deck of the splicer, and were removable for cleaning. The rings would occasionally get loose, requiring a lengthy, tedious, somewhat risky disassembly of the entire machine to access the screws. The reverse screwdriver allowed tightening from above with only the removal of the tanks.

Corner bar stock rack built from materials laying around the shop. Gets that stuff out of the way, & utilizes an otherwise useless bit of space in the corner.
