Howdy,
I am new to the forum, I am currently waiting for delivery of my New BX2670 with 54" mmm and 60" snowplow. I am trading two small riders and a walk behind snowblower (aka mankiller). Question, I have a two y/o JD 170 rider. Is the BX2670 maneuverable enough to cut around small trees and chainlink fences? Or should I consider not trading in my JD?

I'm not sure how much grass you actually cut but when I bought my bx2370 I also bought a JD160 to handle the grass cutting. I cut about 1.5 acres regularly and another 3 acres a few times a summer. I decided the bx was just too big to get around the trees, under the branches, etc. Also consider the weight of the bx. On wet grass with industrial tires it does chew up the grass some. For me the cost of the JD was about the same as the mmm for the bx. I use the bx for stall cleaning, driveway maintaince, dirt, gravel and snow moving and just plain fooling around. Besides I think they look pretty good together.

Good luck and a good choice with the bx

I am pretty much in the same boat as you, cutting 2 acres. I was planning on mowing with the BX, but my biggest need is to plow my lane in the winter, hence the heavier tractor with 4 wheel drive. My drive way is gravel and about a 100 yards long. For the past 20 years, I have been clearing my lane with a simplicity w/ a 48' snow blower. Thanks for the input.

Just my .2c but NO. I bought my BX 2 years ago with the 54 MMM for my 3 acres and just sold the mowing deck a couple weeks ago. I wasn't using it at all for a few reasons.

1: Too big for tight spaces and the turning radius was nothing special.
2: The machine was too heavy for the lawn, it did too much turf damage. If the ground was wet, forget it.
3: The maintance cost of mowing with a BX compared to a standard mower is huge though this wasn't a big factor it did contribute to my process. 100 hrs on my BX cost me $100 in fluids and filters. 100hrs on a gas mower cost me $18.
4: The BX ran hot with the mower. I'm sure it was fine, never overheated or gave me trouble but I just didn't like the feel of it running so warm.

I just bought a new zero turn mower and can't wait to use it (still have snow here in NH). It's going to be faster (#1 reason I switched), cut tighter around obsticals, do no turf damage and be cheaper to operate.

Well, that is kind of unfortunate to hear. One of my criteria was that I could cut grass. Hard to spend 15K+ just to move snow. It is being delivered this week, so I guess I will see. I am super excited about getting it, although my wife is less excited.
How does the tractor do with plowing snow with the 5' blade? Do you need chains on all 4 tires?

Leave the deck at the dealer and put the $ towards a loader. I bought my b7500 used with a loader and mowing deck. Kept my riding mower to mow with and after a year of never putting the deck on the Kubota I sold it. I also still plow the drive with my old Sears rider it does a good job with light snow and when the snow gets to deep I move the piles with the loader.

WELLLLLLL Let me put to you this way,,, I cut with my BX, I have R4 tires filled with wheel weights, and a 60 inch mmm and even in wet grass I leave very few scalps because Im not doing my job,,,
I mow 5 + acres and have never looked back on any other type of mower. The BX is not a Z turn it is a tractor, it is not a lawn mower it is a tractor, though it does a damn fine job mowing.
Tell you what you do,,, give the gal a chance, mow with it for a couple of week and see what you don't think it can do.
Take your time and learn the machine and Im thinking the green thing will be up for sale before the summer is over... Just MHO OH and welcome to the orange, and pictures my friend pictures we loves our tractor porn,,,lol

I'm with skeets, why wouldn't you guys want to cut grass with the kubota  I can see using a zero turn would be much better, and I hear they are the cats meow until you have to fix them. We use a b2910 with a MMM to cut 7+ acres and we love it. When my pops bought the tractor he also bought a JD rider because the lawn was freshly planted so you want something light on the ground. We also pulled a roller behind it to help pack the soil down.

Right when the warranty was up on the green, it literally fell apart and was leaking/burning a lot of oil. It was basically scrap tin after that. Now all we use is the tractor and it works great, loaded turf tires. If the ground is really wet we just stay off it. I swear it takes half the time to cut compared to the little Deere. Even if the grass gets really tall from waiting to dry out, the bota tears right through and cuts nice.

You fellas that are having problems with ruts, try using a roller, it definitely helps.

Well I mowed my yard with my neighbors JD 3039, the tractor weighs in at 3,000 plus, it did a beautiful job, and left minimal marks. That's a full 1,000 lbs more than a BX..I would use the BX

It moves snow like a champ, no chains needed and I have a decent hill I remove snow from (8% grade).

Back to the mowing, it mow's fine but it's a tractor first NOT A MOWER and that was clear to me when I used it. My point is it will do the job but there are better tools suited to mowing than a BX that do the job a lot better.

My zero turn is a mower first. Yes it can pull a trailer too but no where near as good as my BX can pull a trailer. My point; right tool for the right job.

I'm mowing about 2 acres and I have the 1870 with Turf tires, and the 48" deck. Seems to turn as well as any standard garden tractor, and can get in and out just as good with the small deck.

I needed it for the 4wd, since I have a hilly yard. AND... because of that... a zero turn is useless to me.

As said above... It's a lot of money if you aren't going to mow with it also.

FYI... if it's ripping up the yard when wet.... then stop mowing wet grass. Besides... it will eventually rot the deck, if you don't clean it all out after. (sorry, had to be said)
