I would like to mount a short pole to add maybe 18-24" lift ht to my BX2230. Ideal point of attachment would be in or on the FEL, which is an LA211. Could it be as simple as a length of box steel fitted into a weld-on receiver hitch? Pics would be helpful thank you

assuming it's a pin-on bucket, I had a 2 3/16" sq tube welded vertically on the 'back of the bucket', had 5/8" hole near the top. 2" tubing went in and got pinned. had a couple different 'poles' for it, depending on the job.
You could put a flat plte on the bottom of the tubing but then water WILL get in, stay, then rust, .....

i like that...i think i'll put it on the bottom as i have a hook and a backer already welded to the back (center).

i'll look for a male and female in the barn. can weld a plate to the female receiver and bolt it to the bottom of the bucket. maybe make several holes in the male to make it somewhat adjustable as it will be able to slide in and out at least the depth of the bucket.

i suppose i could also use round steel/pipe for the components.

To answer your question, yes! Keep it simple

I am not sure how much weight you intend to lift and/or if it's a 1-time job or not, but I added a 4x4x8' long pc of pressure treated wood (post) under my bucket and facing forward (like a big forward facing spike) so I could lift a big roll of fencing weighing (total guess) 200+ lbs).

No pix, but basically I used a very HD strap around my FEL' bucket and it worked fantastic ! (no side loading...just pick up, and transport) then set back down, back away. By doing this I added up to 6-7' of lift height to the bucket at the far end of the 4x4x8

If I had wanted to reach/touch something way high up (say, in a tree or on a wall) then this 1-time use would've worked perfectly. As it was, I was lifting.

If I wanted, I suppose I could've even mounted a pulley or winch cable to the end of this 4x4, but I would've needed to add side straps to prevent the 4x4 from shifting left/right.

Someday it'll go back on for some job or another and I'll take a photo

One of the projects on the back burner was to adapt an old homebrew 3 point boom pole to an SSQA frame. Got sidetracked with mounting a receiver on the bucket for some other stuff. Been using that receiver with a small winch and may not get around to the boom pole.

Second pic was when i needed a quick way to hold a piece of square tube to work on it.

A sufficiently strong/braced 2" hitch receiver, and a thick enough 2" square tube, will lift a pretty crazy amount of weight. certainly beyond what a BX can lift.

Pretty much a one-time job. The load is a beam approx 400lbs. Need to lift height of 104", bucket provides for 91". A foot and a half boom from buckets edge gets me the vertical lift. How to determine what the loss of lift capacity might be lifting from 18" out...

Also plan on fabbing a chain/cable stay from end of boom to center hook on bucket.

one possible option...
build a wooden 'box' that fits snug into the bucket with say 2' height( more than you need...)
you'll have to 'secure' it somehow ( depends on bucket shape )
this will give you a nice 4' wide area the beam can be supported on, even secured to by blocking.

I had to do this when my 9' forklift didn't go 10' 2" up.........

I built this pole for my BX24 to lift 2x12s for a beam for a loft I’m planning to build in my barn. It fits into the 2” receiver on my fork frame and reaches 11’ to the bottom of the hook. Haven’t had a chance to try it out yet due to other projects.

Simplest yet was the box idea, was trying that but will not work because the bucket roll prevents me from having a level platform at both ground level and raised oh well.

why did i not think of clamp-on forks... am i missing something?

Clamp-on forks should work fine for hanging 400lbs off the end of, assuming you are hanging it off BOTH of them and not just 1 of them.

If it is not a self-levelling loader you will have to curl the bucket to compensate for the change in angle from ground to full height regardless of what you use, so i don't understand why that wasn't working.
