I recently purchased a new Kubota L3901 and I am faced with the choice of a 60 inch or 72-inch rototiller to pull behind my tractor. A 72 will cover my tracks but I am worried if the extra weight will also affect power and performance. Does anybody have any experience in this selection?

Gear or HST for the transmission? HST with a tiller is the best combo...

I used a 60" behind my L2800 HST with no problem what so ever... With kicking up rocks and in pretty good soil. Your tractor will handle the 72" with no problem. Soil over in Camden should be sandy with no rock.

I have an L3800 and went with a 66" Phoenix, reverse rotation. I had no problem at all with it when I tilled a 1/2 acre in preparation for a new lawn.

I use a 60" offset to the right, use the left track as a 'marker' when tilling the entire field, or leave it as the footpath, depending on the client.

Purchased a RTA1272 for my 3901 this spring. Don’t buy something that won’t cover ur tractor tracks. No problem running the 72”. If it doesn’t cover ur tractor tracks it won’t do a good job Because it rides up on the tire tracks.

'ride up on the tire track ? Never ever seen that. Got maybe 10-12 years of tilling the garden, though I suppose having 2-3 ' of beautiful top soil helps. Even then, 60" tillers weigh a lot,and sharp tines should get the job done.

Well when you have a tiller that covers your tracks it does a nicer job. No matter the soil. My soil is only 2ft lush. It also depends on your tractor size and weight your little BX isn't that heavy so you don't have the compaction that an 3901 will have. Just my opinion, buy wide enough to cover the tracks and you don't have to worry. Happy tilling.

FF, I don't use my B23S for tillering, use my D-14 ,which weighs in around 4,000 plus another 700 for the rototiller. It sure don't 'float' !
One day, I might actually open up the 3PH box, remove BH and just see how the BX23S does do in the garden...first, I'd have to find the 3PH box..it's been 3 years since I got that...

I used a 72” county line tiller for years on a little L2800 with no FEL. You’ll be fine with the 72” model.

I do a lot of food plotting with my tiller. It makes pretty dirt but tilling is slow. I had a 48” tiller. When I went to the 72” one I thought I had won the lottery.
