I am rebuilding my RC48G mower deck. I was wondering why there are three holes drilled into the front of the mower deck. In reviewing the manual for RC48G, I noticed there is supposed to be a "Front Plate" bolted on the inside of the mower-deck.

Here is a link to what this "Front Plate" looks like.

Does anyone know WHY this hunk of steel is supposed to be bolted onto the inside of the mower deck? What is its purpose?

Thanks for the reply, my mower-deck has rollers all over it (front, side, back...even underneath)

I am asking about a metal bar (about 2 foot length) which is bolted on the INSIDE of the deck on the opposite side of the discharge-chute.

What is this thing for?

The few Kubota decks I have owned or inspected all have the plate. It could be as simple as a stiffening bar. I always assumed it was about grass movement toward the discharge. Jeff

I believe that piece is part of the bagger prep kit. Keeps more of the air flow and clippings contained on its' way to the discharge chute. Pretty sure it is referred to as an 'anti-blowout' plate. Mine has it, but I purchased the unit with the bagger included. My old Deere had the same thing, a 425 w/power flow bagger.

Thank you to those who responded.

Judging from the paint still being pristine on the holed where this 'plate' bolts on, I guess there never was one installed for the past 30 years.

I will assume it is not critical to have one installed.
