I think that @jimh406 was referring to the oil pressure that's used to operate the injectors that's generated by the high pressure oil pump (HPOP). It's up around 3,000 psi for my '02 F-250 at full throttle, but the engine oil pressure is pretty standard i.e. in the 40 psi to 70 psi range.
That was the confusion I was talking cc about in my initial response.

I dont know about your 02 but in many Powerstrokes the HPOP bumps the injector oil supply up to ~4000 PSI and delivers thst to the injector. The intensifier section of the HEUI injector multiplies that by a factor of 7 = ~21 000 PSI which is then applied to the low pressure (~60 PSI) fuel delivered by the fuel pump. Injection events are electronically controlled by engine management just like in high pressure common rail.

The engine oil filter never sees any of that.

Since I recently purchased a 2024 F-450 with the 6.7L and installed a WIX oil filter (listed below) when I changed the oil back in May, I was curious as to how the 6.7L WIX filter compares with the 6.8L and 7.3L gas engines offered in the Super Duty. At first I thought it was odd to have a different thread size for the filters even thought the O.D. of the filters are the same. But then I thought that perhaps it's intentional to prevent installation of the wrong filter.

The diesel filter has a by-pass pressure setting of 8 psi vs. 22 psi for the gas engine filters.

6.7L diesel > 57151XP
Height: 6.7"
O.D.: 3.7"
Thread: 1-16
By-pass valve setting: 8 psi
Flow rate: Not listed

6.8L/7.3L gas > 51372XP
Height: 3.8"
O.D.: 3.7"
Thread: 22x1.5 mm
By-pass valve setting: 22 psi
Flow rate: 11-13 gpm

Yep! I recently replaced the IDM/ICM which is the injector driver/control module. Turns out that the truck doesn't run well at all when that thing decides to go on a permanent vacation! It's a hard life for the injectors for sure running those kinds of pressures, and a noisy one too. I haven't gone down the rabbit hole much at all as to why my '24 6.7L is orders of magnitude quieter than my '02 7.3L but it's significant. Even my friend's '08 6.4L is way quieter than my 7.3L.

I had a '95 Chev diesel truck and I know for a fact the strainer on the suction of the fuel is much finer for the gas engine. It was a pain to change it out!!
