The question of which end of the pto shaft should have the shear bolt has been discussed before. My implements have the shear bolt at either end.

I asked COMER's tech support people thinking they would be the better qualified to answer. No doubt others will prefer what has worked for them.

My question : Can you advise on which end of the pto shaft the shear bolt should be located. The tractor end or the driven implement end.

Why?

Here is their answer:

The protection device is usually on the implement end. The torque is usually driven by the implement and you want to protect the gearbox.

Really?

Implement gear boxes are cheap compared to tractor PTOs.
Torque is only supplied by the tractor. At least I have never seen an implement providing "torque". I wonder what is being said?
But, protect what you want.
Many men seem to have big bellies. 'Putting a roof over the things they choose to protect ;-)

I personally think having the shear point at the PTO side makes more since.
If you have any failure with the PTO shaft it will protect for that too. ;)
