I'm starting to get some play in my rear-mounted blower PTO driveshaft u-joints. Plus the shield is a little worse for wear and should be replaced. Kubota wants $100 (all prices in Canadian $) each for the u-joints and $173 for the shield assembly. The Kubota assembly has a shear bolt incorporated into the PTO end yoke, plus a shear bolt hole and a keyway in the implement end yoke. The blower shaft stub is 1" round with both a keyway and a shear bolt hole as well.

I can get an entire shaft assembly for $135, delivered to my door. The problem is all I can seem to find is 1-3/8" round or 1-1/4" round hole in the implement end yoke. Is there any reason I can't just turn a 1-3/8" x 1" bushing on the lathe to adapt that yoke to the blower and use a shear bolt at that connection instead of at the PTO end?

Does the oem shaft have a replaceable u joint? If so just buy a new shaft matching u joint size. Then just change out for the oem yoke. It sounds like a series 1 or 2 driveline.

For those contemplating the rabbit hole, a Series 2 u-joint turns out to be a Moog 341. A pair are $75 shipped from Amazon. Far cry from $100 each.

Yes you could just make an adapter to size a larger shaft size down.
