Yep yesterday I finialy figured out why my corn and beans were not coming up in the little garden. I mean we have had enough warm weather and rain something should have been up by now. So upon farther investigation it was discovered little holes dug at every seed. And then it came to light,(*^&*^$@&(#)(**** chipmunks I have been invaded by chipmunks! All sizes and shapes! I plant and they dig up the seeds. While the daughters old Anschütz 54 is getting a work out, does anyone have any idea how to get rid of these destructive pests.

A couple dogs roaming around will usually cause them to relocate. They are also easy to live-trap with some sunflower seeds. They take over pretty quick when left unchecked.

My cat has been on the ASPCA's 10 most wanted for a few years now. The right cat will eliminate your rodent problems as well as the neighbors.

We dont have chipmunks here in florida, so I have no experience with them. I was just going to suggest a poultry type electric fence. Im not sure if chipmunks would respect this, or just go under it or what. You could put it in, with a solar fence charger. It installs in just a few minutes, and is electrified. It would shock the chipmunks if they made contact with it. I know many people who use these fences around gardens. they can work well for deer and other animals.

It looks kinda like this

+1 and I never have wiring issues with the tractors in the barn either. The resident cat handles the 'light work'...:)

Well cats would be the cure Im sure, however the yotes have really cleaned up the stray cats around here. I have bucket traps set around and have caught a few. I guess I will just have to be more diligent.

I think it was three years ago we were over run by Gray Squirrels. You could drive 5 miles and see 10 grey squirrels hit in the road. And once the acorns came on you could see 6 or 8 up every tree dropping clusters of acorns. BUT this year here in southern Maine we are over run with chipmunks. Lots of them. I'm not sure why but any time you go outside you can see 10 or more scatter. Shoot 5 with the pellet gun or .22 and see five run. Its really odd.

I use a pellet rifle with scope. I don't have a critter problem. The critters have a yooper problem.

I found that a length of 6 inch stove pipe and a plastic Tomcat rat trap work well, don't even need to use any bait. I place the pipe in an area the chipmunks travel, set and place the trap inside the pipe, be sure to tie (wire) the trap to something secure ( I use a piece of rebar stuck in the ground next to the pipe) otherwise if only caught by a foot they will drag the trap off (most run headfirst into the trap) Noticed new digging in the garden yesterday, set this system up and have caught 4 in 2 days. good luck

Give it a spot in your barn to hang out in, maybe a little food, if it stays in at night the coyotes might not get it, and the chipmunks are out in the daytime....

Females are the deadliest . We had a wild calico female cat that would bring the "copper heads & water moccasins " to the back porch to show off her hunting skills .
You might try getting some owl houses & attract a few owls.

I have the same pellet gun too. I didn't mount the scope. I just aim down the barrell. Sometimes I have to shoot two or three shots. But its a killer gun for a pellet gun.

Skeets can I whine too? I have spent about 4 hours on my hands and knees in the last two days picking Colorado potato beetle larvae off my potatoes. I wish they'd go back to Colorado. Neither a pelletgun nor a cat is likely to help.

Doesn't 7dust work on the beetles?

I like the idea of the chickens. A few fiberglass step in poles and the electric poultry netting to keep them near the spuds would work well to stay off the knees.
