Obvious? watch out for ebay ballast box quality/functionality.

I have to say I got a great price on my ballast box on ebay. However, I had to replace the pins and drill holes for the Category 1 pins in the bottom. That took a bit of time including finding my right step bit.

Technically, I could have kept the cheesy pin on the top, but from what I understand the Category 0s on the bottom were going to bend. Luckily, Tractor Supply is on a somewhat normal route. Unclear if it’s going to work with a quick hitch or not, but since my quick hitch isn’t here yet, that’s not a problem.

However, they were out of the right spray paint, so I’m also bright red a while longer.

I probably should have just bought a Titan Black model. Oh, well ...

It’s good to explain the difference in the products, because cheaper is not always the same. As you say by the time you replace the pins and fit them if you want a Cat 1 version, it’s more or less the same cost as a Titan model.

Titan normally has a reddish orange model on sale too. I have 2 of the Titan ones and consider them good value.

I also have the Titan box and it came with everything you need. Only additional items required to make it work with most quick hitches is the category 1 to category 3 bushings on the lower pins.

I just had a quick look on eBay and there are a number of boxes that are listed as category 1 but the pictures show category 0 lower pins. My guess is that the sellers have no idea about the differences between categories.

My titan box the top link was not in the same vertical plane as the lower pins - needed moved forward. Also needed lowered to match the rest of my implements. Drilled new holes in a top link adaptor to accomplish the correct fit.

My Titan box had the right pins bit the top link bracket was welded skewed. It works but drives me crazy 😜

I have mine on a quick hitch. I can tell it's not alligned perfectly but for the price I couldn't find a better option. I'd be a bit more upset if it was an implement other than a ballast box but it works just fine for my needs.

It sounds like you bought a CAT0 ballast box even though you have a CAT1 tractor ??
The description said it was for Category 1, but in hindsight, I might have been able to notice how small the pins were.

That's on them and not you in my opinion.
