Hello,
I am new to this board, and new to Kubota. I am much more familiar with older Ford tractors. We just brought home a 1985 B8200DT. As a new list member, apparently I am not yet allowed to post pictures?

Anyhow, it is a 34 yr old gear tractor - has turf tires, P/S, 4WD, shows 904 hours on the clock, and came with an RCB 60-I belly mower. I'm in the process of disasembling, cleaning, greasing/degreasing and making a list of parts to replace.

I have been searching and reading the OTT Service Repair & Maintenance archives, which are a great help for a beginner. Saw many suggestions for newbie Kubota owners to start things out right and change out all fluids & filters as part of a proper maintenance program. This is what my first questions are about.

The PO mentioned that he used Shell Rotella 5W-20 in the engine. My new-to-me B8200 operator's manual calls for either SAE 10W or 10W-30 for warm climates in the engine? I'm not familar with Rotella, although I saw lots of OTT SR&M postings about it - which is best for warm climates?

The manual calls for SAE80 or SAE90 in the gearboxes, which I have on hand. When I change out this gear oil, is it OK to flush the old oil out of the gearbox with diesel or kerosene? For the refill, are there any extra additives that would help?

For the transmission, there are at least 10 different multigrade transmission fluids listed. Is there a good one I can get at Tractor Supply?

Also, what is Stanadyne? This was mentioned in several posts as a diesel additive of some kind.

I'd like to change out all filters where I can while I have things apart. Have watched the Vic the service guy videos and am ready to get started. There seems to be some disagreement over the best filter brands in the OTT archives. Also I see 'complete filter change kits' advertised on Messicks and Colemans - better to buy these or get the filters separately?

For this B8200DT, I now have the operator's manual, the shop manual, and downloaded the parts manual PDF. Same for the RCB60-I mower deck - have operator's/shop/parts manuals. I found a paper copy of the power steering shop manual as well and have the parts manual PDF for that too.

This will be the first diesel I have worked with, so I would appreciate your recommendations on what products and parts sources work best.

Thanks,
Doug Lloyd
