Hello,
I am new to this board, and new to Kubota. I am much more familiar with older Ford tractors. The 1985 B8200DT that we just brought home is a 34 yr old gear tractor - has P/S, 4WD, shows 904 hours on the clock, and came with an RCB 60-I belly mower and rides on turf tires. Not sure if I am allowed to attach photos or not - here goes.

I have been searching and reading the OTT Service Repair & Maintenance archives, which are a great help for a beginner. Saw many suggestions for newbie Kubota owners to start things out right and change out all fluids & filters as part of a proper maintenance program. This is what my first questions are about.

The PO mentioned that he used Shell Rotella 5W-20 in the engine, 80-90 weight in the gearboxes, truck stop diesel fuel and had never changed out the transmission oil.

My new-to-me B8200 operator's manual calls for either SAE 10W or 10W-30 for warm climates in the engine? I'm not familar with Rotella, although I saw lots of OTT SR&M postings about it - which is best? The manual calls for SAE80 or SAE90 in the gearboxes, which I have on hand. For the transmission, there are at least 10 different multigrade transmission fluids listed. Is there a good one I can get at Tractor Supply? Also, what is Stanadyne? This was mentioned in several posts as a diesel additive of some kind.

I'd like to change out all filters where I can while I have things apart. There seems to be some disagreement over the best filter brands in the OTT archives. Also I see 'complete filter change kits' advertised on Messicks and Colemans - better to buy these or get the filters separately? Also it appears that the engine airfilter element can be manually cleaned and reused?

I have the shop manual on order, and have downloaded the PDF copies of the parts manuals for the tractor and the mower. This will be the first diesel I have worked with, so I would appreciate your recommendations on which I should go with.

Thanks,
Doug Lloyd
