Had to get a new muffler for my M7040 due to a pecan tree incident. Limb snapped as I was going under it. Limb caught the exhaust stack which pushed the stack back, bending the muffler elbow. Of course, everything has to be ordered now at the dealership.

I checked with several stores to stay with an OEM solution and they weren’t much cheaper than the dealer with a longer wait time. Stens mufflers were available but I havent been impressed with there other products.

Anyway, removed the hood and that made the install a lot easier. The new muffler came required a new bracket that actually bolts to the muffler instead of the original that had the muffler sliding a tab into the bracket which resulted in significant vibration in the stack.

Final result is pretty significant. Negligible stack vibration due to the stack being hard mounted to the block. Much quieter but better sounding muffler. Overall, it cost way too much but the end result is very good.

Also, if you end up in this situation, it turns out that for my tractor, there were at least three different muffler and bracket configurations based on my serial number. Of course, the wrong one was ordered. So if you go to the dealer, have your serial number and a picture of what you are replacing.
