A number 10 can of highly energetic worms.

Tractor: Kubota L 175.
serial number 13689
engine model Z750
no other information

My old alternator died, and died horribly. The diode plate rusted way, and fell down into the bottom, and locked it up. The insulation was going on the coils, and the bearings were pitted.

I bought another alternator that had a different kind of 3 prong plug.

OK, no big deal, the old plastic plug had broken up, so replace with a new pigtail. The new plug has a red, a black, and a white wire. The old plug's wiring has white with green stripe, white with black stripe, and two joined black wires.

OK, I wired it up per advice from the alternator vendor. No bueno. When I turn the key on, the alternator light on the dash should be on until the motor starts. It's not. Their advice was White with green F, white with black N, Black E.

I don't want to buy "genuine Kubota". $550 +. This alternator was $80, Ebay item 177924880411. I want badly to make this work. Any help you could give?

I am no expert but I don’t think the light would work with that alternator. But the alternator is probably charging the battery properly (I assume).

You can get a rebuilt alternator that is fairly identical to the original one.

Do you have a wiring diagram? I think the light comes on since there is no power to some of the wires at the regulator in the original configuration. But now you are always providing power to the light due to wiring changes.

Just to be sure:

What is the battery voltage before you start it?

What is the battery voltage when the engine is running above fast idle?
