I am thinking about getting a MX5800. Can't decide to get the HST or not. My cousin bought a HST last year and only kept it a few months, he didn't like it. A friend of mine let me drive his older L3800HST and I liked it. Gonna do bush hogging and maintain a few roads. Any thoughts on the HST?

Love my HST. They are bullet proof. Make earthwork or moving in small areas cake. My wife can drive my HST. Keeps your resale higher. Buddy bought a manual L3800 and told me recently there have been times he wished he had bought the HST. There have been no times I wished my L3800 was a manual.

I LOVE the HST on my L5740HSTC, very similar to the MX5800 and I do pretty much everything you will be doing.

Now I really like our geared, hydraulic-shuttle M8540, but for a CUT, I'll pick HST every time; owned an L5030HSTC before this one.

My brother opted for geared CUT and really wishes he had gone with HST and all of his other tractors are geared machines.

This is a seemingly never ending debate, but the trend is moving steadily to HST on these machines; go compare how many tractors on any lot are HST as opposed to geared. I checked one dealer not too long ago and he didn't have one CUT with gears, had a GST, but no straight geared ones.

I have owned a few Kubota HST tractors. My current is an MX4800. I love the HST and feel that it is safer too. When brush hogging I just use the cruise control.

HST - even if it hurts the pocket book a bit
