GOP SAYS SUPERMAJORITY DECLARES WAR ON WORKING CLASS - KQEN News Radio

The article states that the supermajority in there House has proposed a bill to outlaw diesel fuel statewide by 2028. I'm not sure they have thought about the impact of this since not only cars, pickups, semis, tractors, construction equipment, trains, ships, and generators all run on diesel fuel.

Some of these can be replaced by gas engines, but not all of them.

Wouldn't you know her name is Karin! She probably doesn't know where her food actually comes from.

From the actual text of the bill:

“Motor vehicle” means every self-propelled vehicle operated on the highway, except an implement of husbandry used in agricultural operations and only incidentally operated or moved upon the highway.
So, at least they leave an exception for farm vehicles. But:
“Use in a motor vehicle” means receiving, into any receptacle on a motor vehicle, fuel to be consumed in propelling the motor vehicle on the highways of this state.
So ALL semis, for starters. You know what else runs on diesel? Fire trucks.

Looks like biodiesel will be allowed. How they expect that to match the demand, I have no idea.

This will be fun to watch, at least for those of us not in Oregon.

When people truly believe reality is whatever they say it is they do really dumb things. Like prohibit use of vehicles such as heavy trucks which are currently necessary to basic sustenance of life.

It’s a no go on the oxen if they ever figure out oxen are bovines. Their exhaust (farts) are as bad for air quality as a deleted diesel pickup rolling coal. Clearly you’re not woke.

Trains don't run on highways. They can ignore this.

From the bill:
"
HB3305

SECTION 1. (1) As used in this section:
(a) “Motor vehicle” means every self-propelled vehicle operated on the highway, except

an implement of husbandry used in agricultural operations and only incidentally operated or moved upon the highway."

Thousands of Oregon fire trucks and school buses will no longer be legal.

I think this is dumber than the legalizing of all the illegal drugs in Oregon. Lots of diesels traveling up and down I-5. Take back your state Oregon

Might be why they came up with this bill. Wonder how many are partaking in the harder stuff and vaporised most of their brain cells.

Zero emissions. Somebody has to explain that to me. How is the electricity produced? How are the minerals mined to make the batteries and steel for the infrastructure? Also copper and plastic needed to make it complete. And don’t try to confuse me with the facts

The first exemption will be "all state and municipality owned vehicles". Like most vehicle laws, the local DPW doesn't count.

Even if some vehicles are exempt there, diesel fuel prices will likely rise substantially since many places will no longer be selling it.

I had to reread that - I thought you said "brains"...

Trains may not run on highways, but that doesn't mean they can ignore this. Same goes for agriculture. The bill specifies biodiesel only, vs. refined diesel - this will impact availability of OTR diesel significantly, and cause a corresponding significant increase in price. Right now there isn't anywhere near enough biodiesel produced to meet Oregon's needs and it's not likely to get there by the time this kicks in, so you'll see shortages.

How much all that will impact off-road diesel and train fuel is difficult to determine, but there certainly WILL be an impact, as there always is in adjacent markets when something like this is done. And given how much of the infrastructure is served by diesel (as discussed on another thread), prices for pretty much everything will go up.

Incidentally, from what I've been reading, it seems that biodiesel is about 90% as efficient as petroleum diesel, yet releases the same amount of CO2 per volume, so if the same levels of use are maintained (they won't, but for argument), this would end up producing 111% the CO2 emissions as staying with petrol-diesel.

More over educated idiots here me tinks. It goes right back to what dear old dad said 35 years ago. "There is just too much food in this country, if they were hungry they would not worry about it."

You can't fix stupid and worse yet it breeds.
