I recently had to pull a tire off my old B7500 -- the lug nuts were installed with the tapered end out and with lockwashers against the wheel -- non-tapered end of the lug nut against the lockwasher. I looked at the other wheel -- same set up. Is this correct?

depends if the wheel was designed for a tapered nut or a flat nut/washer.....
Are you the original owner?
Can you confirm the nuts / washers in question are original?
Can you confirm the wheels are original?

so many different combinations possible.
I myself have gone to local parts stores and find tapered nuts being of right size BUT taper not needed so I simply flip them around and use the flat face. That may have occurred in your case.
You need to asses the studs, wheel and nuts and have all 3 work together properly in combination.

pulled this from Canada, B7500D, #180 seems to be a TAPERED wheel nut, at least to my eyes....
one clue is on the rim.... is there a 'taper' around the hole where the studs go though ??

Configuration depends on what rims you have.
There was several rim options for both.

Here is a lock washer version.

It can even vary front to back - my B7100hst has tapered lug nuts on the rear and flat nuts with a lock washer and flat washer on the front.
