Never going to have one of Amazon's devices in my house. My Android cell phone does enough spying as it is. I keep it turned off a lot of the time, which most people don't even realize they can do and not die of information starvation.

Years ago someone rented the neighbour's house for the winter. They approached and asked if I would share my wi-fi for $XX/month because of the expense of having internet installed for just a few months.

Flash forward to later that summer. Cops show up on my doorstep after tracking child porn activity during that time to my IP address. It was not a fun experience.

Never again will I consider sharing wifi.

I would have at most a flip phone (yes they still make them) if I didn't need certain apps for work. Siri, Alexa, etc. are not welcome in my house.

You also need to know that Comcast and some other ISPs also are already doing that with their modem/routers. They create a wireless guest network. If you do a search for networks in your area you may see one that says something like “Xfinitywifi” or something similar for other ISPs. The only way to avoid that kind of thing is to disable WiFi on the ISP provided router and buy a dedicated wireless router of your own and use it exclusively for your home wireless. Also, Apple computers (and windows too) have a feature that shares your PC wireless connection with other devices in the area. You have to disable that feature to make sure that your network is secure. The amount of bandwidth that they peel off for this is small but it is not secure because it connects to a router in your neighborhood that does not have a secure password. Tech’s often do not change the neighborhood router password from a default one or one that the ISP assigns to all it’s neighborhood routers. BTW, all neighborhoods have this router for at least one location. It is a necessary Point Of Presence (POP) for maintenance purposes and more recently, to be a POP for the internet of things.
