Leaky Sprayer Tank

I have a 40 gallon Finco 3 point Sprayer which serves my needs just fine. Unfortunately, the tank has a small leak around one of the bolts which holds the tank to the support frame. When full, I have a constant dribble. Last year during spay season, my every move could be tracked as you followed the trail of dead grass/pasture/ whatever.

I've tried slathering silicone caulk, I've tried this liquid nails guey tape product but no luck to date. I'm thinking I could remove the tank and look at the rubber washers but was hoping for an easier fix. Everything else on the sprayer works great. It's $500+ to replace so I'm looking for a solution.

Any bright ideas Im over looking?

A plastic welder would probably be the best bet.

I have the same sprayer, and based on reviews that was common for them to crack around the bolt holes in the bottom. I left them out when I assembled it, the straps hold the tank to the frame just fine.

My son has a plastic welder which I used on an ATV fender.
I found that while the welder fused the plastic together, right beside the weld it broke again.
It was like the plastic had lost all its plasticizers. and was brittle

There is a product called pig putty which is a 2 part epoxy. I've used it in all sorts of places (a stick that is over 20 years old). It's a 2 part and available at Lowes and on line. Amazing stuff. Fixed an actively leaking oil pan in a car while on the road and still leaking. Never had to go back to it!

Patched a back pack sprayer with this stuff. Need to score the pastic (rough it up) I put cuts into the plastic with a knofe - cross hatch pattern.. I did both, inside and the outside of the tank. It was a 3 gallon tank and I could get my arm in there - not sure you'll be able to do that on a 40 gallon tank.

Larry I have good success with using a fiber glass repair kit with the mat and resin. You would have to take the tank off and sand the tank lightly and then use the patch kit. Have repair many plastic water storage and spray tanks that way. It work well. Friend of mine tried the plastic welding on a sprayer tank and it cracked again were it had be warmed up for the welding process.

Larry i had the same problem with my tank and i use J-B weld marine it work great.

Another product which might work well is Marine-Tex… designed to repair holes in boat hulls. Worked good for me.

Although I like the suggested JB Marine Weld better, JB Water Weld works very well on just about any surface, and you usually find it at every big box or WalMart store. It cures faster, and it would be a good product to have on hand for a quick repair in the future.

I have the 40 gallon Fimco sprayer. Fimco is aware of the issue with the bolt inserts in the bottom of the tank cracking. You might call and see if they will replace the tank. I don't use the bolts in the bottom, just use the two hold down straps.

Have successfully welded several plastic items with a Weller soldering gun with a broad flat tip. A zip tie works well as filler material.
