MY tractor when cool or cold, frequently starts fine but then abruptly shuts off. Sometimes (with the key still in the ON position) within a few moments of shut OFF, I hear rapid clicking of the fuel solenoid - sometimes just a couple of times, other times it will just chatter ON and OFF for several moments. Turning the key OFF and ON makes no difference - another words, the event is not associated with the turning ON or OFF of the key. I just need to wait for the fuel solenoid to engage again on its own, turn the key and the tractor starts right up. This problem tends to repeat several times until the tractor has reached normal operating temp, then it occurs only rarely.

I've replaced the fuel solenoid and now know the original was functioning just fine.

I've traced and checked the wiring harness for signs of cuts, damage or compromise. Everything appears fine.

I've checked the electrical relays behind the instrument panel. The one responsible for the fuel solenoid is also having the same rapid clicking, but I have replaced the relay switch and now know it too is NOT the problem. The new relay does the same thing.

I expect many of you can relate to my frustration in figuring out the problem. I'd appreciate your ideals on what to try next and I am concerned the problem will become progressively worse and lead to a day when I can no longer get the tractor to run at all.

I'll bet you have a bad safety switch, most likely seat. ;)

Second bet would be OPC computer.

Thanks so much for your time in responding. Again, it is a frustrating problem.

I have check the safety switch under the seat. Its working fine. Moving the switch during the problem seemed to have no effect and it does shut the tractor down if I get out of the seat while the PTO is engaged or the tractor is in drive.

Where is the OPC computer?? Part of the instrument panel?? and is there a simple way to test it?

hello,

Only a guess, but...
I would check the mass, minus cable from the battery to the body of the tractor, take it off, take the paint off where it touches the tractor and put it back tight.

Hoping you find the fault.

Regards

Thanks for the ongoing feedback. I spoke with a mechanic who has a strong suspicion it is the OPC Timer (located near the relays behind the instrument cluster). Kubota Part # TD060-30500 This part is approx. $86 with shipping. I've ordered it. It is a simple plug in part with a single bolt holding it to the frame. I hope it works. I've already wasted almost $100 on replacing the fuel solenoid which turned out to be working just fine.

Considering what you have already done, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that you have a battery trying to give up the ghost.
