L3710 shifting problems

I have a L3710 HST 1700 hours. Stuck in High range and cannot force the shifter to change to low or med. gears. No debris jammed and soaked linkage with penetrating oil. Ready to tear into it but maybe somebody out there has some suggestions. Thank you all.

If all the outside linkage is not bent and otherwise ok (try disconnecting and operating with pliers) it points to the inside range shifter may have been forced out of its slot and won't go back in.

The range gears and shifter are toward the top front inside the differential housing. With seat removed, disconnect the upper end of the oil pipe - then unbolt and slightly lift up the 3-pt cylinder & arms assembly - the shifter might go back into place. Verify normal shifting before tightening back down.

My WSM (for an L48 - same setup) has very little info on the range shifter
