My 2501 acts like the brakes are dragging. When moving and I depress the clutch, the tractor stops immediately. On flat cement...I cannot shove it at all manually.
The brakes work great. I have the linkages backed off quite a bit , but it has made no difference.
Nothing heats up that I can tell....I feel the gear housings and trans housing after working and they are not overheated.
This has never occured with any other tractor I have owned. Looks like it is not hurting anything, but it is sure strange.
Anyone got any insight into this to impart to me???
Thanks a million.

Although I have a new L2501HST(I know not the same)-and have only a hour on it,it comes to a stop smartly.
The tractor does to be geared down compared to my B.
High range feels like M in the B..
Looking forward to more replies!
Good Luck!

Since your tractor is 2 WD you could try raising the front off the ground and making sure the front wheels turn freely. If the bearings are too tight it can act like brakes. (Just a thought)

Blondie... that just ain’t right. How long have you owned it?
Is it MFWD (4WD) ?? If so...what tire sizes do you have front and back. If it’s 4WD it should have Front: 7.2-16. Rear: 11.2-24.
If anything else, you may have mis-matched tires and if operating in 4WD excess drag due to tire-size conflicts may be the issue.

I assume it is 4wd?

I would shift it into 2wd and jack the rear end off the ground, and with the range selector in neutral, try turning one of the rear tires.

I would guess, but do not know for sure, that the other tire should turn in the opposite direction if everything is normal. And if turning a tire is difficult/not possible, something must be out of wack.

Parking brake is not dragging.
Tractor is 2wd.
Thanks for all replies.
I will let you guys know if I find why it does this.
