L 2501 oil level after change

First oil change on my L 2501. Book calls for 6 qts .
I put in 5 1/2 qts and installed a new filter.
I am now overfull about 1/4" on dipstick.
Is the book right or the dipstick ???

Use the dip stick, when you drain you don't remove all the oil, same as any other engine/component. Give it a run to ensure all the air is out of the filter.

Had the same issue with my 2501. Had to use the fluid evacuator to take some out through the dipstick hole.

Did you remove both oil drain plugs?

That's what that other plug is ?

When you said you drained it, we can only assume you actually did!

The front drive shaft goes "thought" the middle of the oil pan, so there are drain plugs on both sides.

Yea several of the 4wd models have the split pan, and it requires you to drain both sides of the pan to get it all out.

It's the same for the front axle most have 3 drains and and most have 5 drains for the transmission/ rear end.
