KX91-3 super series arm cylinder disassembly

I have a hard time removing the piston from the cylinder shaft in order to replace the seals on the head. It almost looks like the (55mm or 2 3/16") nut is part of the piston or threaded into the piston. I have removed the set screw and the little ball below it and I have tried a few approaches, including using a sledge hammer, but I am worried that I could do some damage to the shaft, even though, this being an excavator, the shaft seems pretty solid. Any advice?

If this is the cylinder your referring to it should come off once you remove the set screw and ball.
