Hello all.
New owner of an older Kubota M9540.
Tractor is in good condition with no known issues.
This is the gear model, 8 speeds (4x4) with the regular shuttle (have to step on the clutch).
I'm looking to match it up with a batwing mower to maintain about 70 acres of pasture fields.
There is a Bush Hog (brand name) 2615 Legend for sale locally.
Spoke with the owner and he had some concerns about the Kubota being able to handle it.
According to BH website the mower only requires 60hp minimum.
Anybody with any experience or thoughts?
Thanks
rob

I would determine weight wise if the mower is compatible with your tractor in addition to the horsepower requirements. The PTO shaft may also need adjusted/replaced due to size differences. Should be easy to find the info with google. Good luck.

Farm equipment pto shafts are standard SAE size. I can't envision how brand of tractor will change type/size of pto shaft required. I think a 84 pto HP tractor will handle a 15' batwing mower.

Looked at the spec sheet for the BH2615L. With the chains, etc. it comes in a little over 5K lbs.
My tractor with a Stoll front loader doesn't weigh much more than that, maybe 7.5K lbs.
I'm sure the 9540 will spin the blades, my concern (and the seller's) is that the Kubota might get pushed around on the hills?
Had an interesting conversation with a salesman today who espoused the belief that a 12 ft. batwing is the way to go?
He made some very valid points that were somewhat offset by the fact that he only had one mower in stock and it was a 12 footer.

The length could be an issue. The shaft that had been used on the cutter may have been cut and might not fit the Kubota. Its not expensive relatively speaking but it is something to consider.

Relatively speaking the telescoping shaft lengths should be correct for 540 or 1000 rpm drive mowers unless previous owner had incorrect tractor drawbar length. SAE standard drawbar length setting from end of tractor pto to center of hole in tractor drawbar is 14'' for 540 & 16'' for 1000 rpm. My M7040 with liquid ballast in rear tires with FEL weighs more than 7500#s

Thanks for your response.
Do you pull a 15 ft. batwing with your M7040?
How does your machine handle it?
Do you operate on hilly terrain?
Your post made me realize that my rear tires are are weighted so my machine is a little heavier.

I live on flat Texas soil & the heaviest implement I've pulled with my M7040 is a JD 467 rd baler that weighs around 3900#s which would include a rd bale of hay. I've also pulled a flat bed farm wagon with 8 rd bales that should have a total weight around 9000#s

Pretty sure a 9540 will pull a 15ft. mower on level ground. Not sure about stopping at the bottom of a hill.
Learning that 4x4 will help.
Now I'm learning that new machines are in short supply, there is a 10% surcharge, and they won't be available till spring.
Talked to a fishing buddy yesterday and he told me he can't find any Coors Light bottled beer anywhere in NE Ohio.
What next?
