Please advise as to the difference between the referenced engines since all we can see is 3 cylinders vs 4 and 600 higher RPM on the V1505.

We are purchasing an excavator and the various sellers are trying to entice us to buy by saying they will upgrade us to the V1505 at no additional charge?

D1105 is 1.1L, the V1505 is 1.5L. The V1505 is able to give quite a bit more power, but the exact power depends on which machine it's in. Broadly speaking the D1105 is around 15HP and the V1505 is around 20HP, although it may not be exactly that in the machine you're looking at.

What make and model excavators? Surely it's not the same excavator with a different engine?

The “D” refers to “Drei”…the German word for Three (cyls)….and the “V” refers to “Vier (Four cyls).
The 1105 and 1505 refers to the approx. displacement in CCs. (1100 and 1500 cc’s)
The last two digits in both engines (the “05”) refers to the “stroke”… in this case, both engines have a 78.4 mm stroke.
