So question regarding rear ballast weight. The manual doesn't state a maximum or minimum for a rear ballast. It does mention using an implement as a rear ballast, like a box blade which they estimate would be 420 lbs. It does specify the maximum for the front oddly enough. Right now I plan on running a heavyhitch, along with six 70lb weights on the rear for the FEL. My question is:

a) is this enough?
b) should i also fill the tires?

Thoughts?

Appreciate your time

420 lbs is good - a little more could be helpful during certain situations.

loaded tires is good too - type of ballast is a hot topic however - both help greatly when using FEL or for traction.

Ballast is a good idea. Whether to fill the tires depends on whether you feel you have enough traction and stability for your purpose. If you opt to fill the tires you should be aware that some fill materials are corrosive and can eat your rims over time.

O good to know, I will research that. Thanks

I think, I will test out how I feel with 420 lbs. on the back and go from there. I do have space on the heavyhitch hitch for a couple more 70 lb. weights or filling the tires seems like a good idea as well.

My 2680 has the tires filled from the dealer., I’m not sure how much more it helps but I have the 1560 land pride rear blade as well with the R4 tires. With all the negatives about the R4s I was feeling a little let down until we got this snow. With the combination of the blade and filled tires I’m very happy with what this thing will do.. I think the blade is only 250ish.

My rear tires are loaded. I hung 450 lbs. of rear counter weight and found it to be overkill especially with my 300 lbs on the seat. Running 75 lbs now and it works just fine.

Well my BX2370 is basically used as a lawn mower, tiller and powered wheel barrow. No hills in the lawn so tires are not filled - small tires hold less fluid than larger tires. Now I have used it to clean out drainage ditches, doing everything manual tells you not to do. This white knuckles experience made me add a larger B model to the fleet with loaded tires.

Bottom line - loaded tires can make loader operation safer. Sometimes larger, heavier equipment is the safer choice.
