Is it possible to swap rear ends?

Regarding this B6000 I just picked up...is it feesable to either swap trannys with a B5100E to get a 540 rpm pto? Or maybe it would be easier to put the 4x4 front axle on the B6000?

Thanks
Greg

I mean in order to get a CLOCKWISE pto. Or maybe another model would be better to harvest a tranny from.

Also, I wonder if there is a way to re-orient some gears in the B6000 tranny to make it clockwise rotation.

It looks like the B5000 engine is reversed from the B6000

Well, I don't know about your problem, but I sure wish I could swap my rear end for one that would fit those small seats a bit better! :D

Hi Greg

If having a CW rotating pto is important to you then why don't you just build a pto reverser?
i.e. one that mounts on your existing pto shaft? You could easily build one for a few hundred dollars.
What implement are you planning on running off the pto?

Here are some pictures of my slasher I run off the standard b6000 pto - it runs perfectly. When I brought the B6000 it was a tiny 2ft thing. Anyway I modified and re-built it to just under 4ft. The pto connections etc are all standard 1 3/8' Its just that it cuts in the opposite direction.
Anyway all of the small Australian commercial slashers will hook right up to the b6000. You just may need to flip the cutting blades. The reason I rebuilt mine was because of cost - not that I couldn't buy an off the self one.

The b6000 engine is mounted opposite to all the other b model kubotas hence the reverse pto direction (CCW). You notice the exhust is on the opposite side to all the others.

If it bothers you that much I would sell the tractor and get a different one - cheaper in the long run I would think.

Also Service Dept. Vic has a Northern America dropoff station (for these non-standard Kubota's;)) and I have an Australasian one that will kindly take any unwanted b6000 out there if you drop them off to us for free :D:D:D:D

I guess I just like things standard. And besides, a B6000 with the correct pto has improve it's resale value so I am not sure I would lose anthing.

What about rotating the engine? Would that make the gears all messed up (like forward would be reverse etc.)

I would am guessing that kubota used the same trannys on the b5100 etc and just rotated the engine?

By the way...nice set up with the mower?

Hi Greg

I probably wouldn't bother building one but if I did I would do something like in the attached pictures - hope they come out all right. basically use a v belt, and a couple of pillow bearing mounting blocks to hold the shafts.

Cheers John

Nice drawings TopGear. I wonder if there is a simple modification in the tranny, that can be done to reverse the rotation?

No, there isn't any easy way to change pto direction. (if there was we would all be doing it!) when kubota built the b6100 they put the pto higher on the back with a bevel gear shaft which changed the direction of rotation. could the parts be put into a b6000?..... I guess anything is possible but I doubt it'd be worthwhile!

I have checked many pictures on the net of the B5100 and B6100 and those have the air cleaner on the right and exhaust on the left and my B6000 has the exhaust on the right and air intake on the left (from the seat of course)

It seems like after the B6000, the engines were set up different.

They were set up different, but they still all turn clockwise looking at the front end. doesn't matter which side the air cleaner or exhaust is on!

Ed,

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I appreciate your insight. I am a novice at these Kubota's

What about buying the gear and shaft from a 6100 and installing them in a 6000? Is the tranny the same otherwise?

I wrote Hubcity about the issue for my B6000 and Gary King wrote this back to me maybe it will be helpful for you. Oh and check around every once in a while people have the reverse for sell, I'm looking if I find two I'll let you know.

It is true that we have "in the past" produced a gearbox that was designed to reverse the Kubota B6000 tractor rotation, it was old part number 0220-01402. We do not presently make that gearbox. We can however make something similar. If we modify a current Model 22, 1/1 ratio, style SO, to have a 31/32" 10 Splined hollow bore and a 1-3/8" 6 Spline output shaft we will achieve the same effect of reversing the rotation and converting to standard PTO size and spline. The old gearbox was actually a variation of the current model 22. The main difference is that we no longer can make the Mounting adapter that was on the 0220-01402. It would be necessary for you to find a way to mount it to your tractor.
