I think it's time to upgrade the B2650

Ultimately what I really need is a larger framed tractor with at least 1000 more pounds of lift capacity on the loader.

I'm thinking the L3901 would be a suitable replacement for the 2650, but isn't that much larger of a frame. Do I need to step up to the 4701?

1000 more Lbs. of FEL lift?

That is a bunch.

I run a L3901 and think the loader is not that capable but it is all relative to the user. I have a set of UA 42 “ forks and frame on my loader most of the time. I recently had my chipper on a pallet in the back of my pick up and wanted to unload it with my L3901. My chipper weighs right around 1,000 lbs. my L3901 really struggled to lift that pallet, it took high rpms and I managed to just lift it clear of the truck bed, I had someone drive my truck forward then slowly lower the load down.

The on paper and real world situations are often different due to distance from lift pins etc. I like my L3901, but I need a more capable loader for my use, I try to use my MX 5800 for lifting loads over 600lbs, it is much more capable. Problem is I have 2 locations and often transport my L3901, the fact that the L3901 is at it’s limit unloading attachments that I use with it is why I consider the FEL not that capable.

The L4701 has a larger loader but not sure you are stepping up 1,000 lbs in capacity, if you really need that capacity take a serious look at an MX.

All the L series have similar hydraulics - I think there's two loader capacities, but it's not that much different. The rule of thumb is you have to go up two sizes - so that'd be an MX. A Grand L might do it, I think they are a bit bigger, but the MX is more metal for the money - so unless you want some of the comfort and convenience features of a Grand L I'd go for the MX. An older used M could be a good idea too - they're bigger but not that big.

My l4240 appears to do what you want. More FEL capacity was one of the reasons it replaced an L3200.

Assuming your loader is an L534A, it does 1,146# full height at pin, my LA854 does 2,489#. Lift capacities at 500mm are 827# and 1,878# respectively.

Kubota loader numbers are based on (approx.) Kilograms of lift capacity at about 500mm in front of the pins at full lift height. On some models, there is a choice of different loaders.

EDIT: Strange. I just looked at an LA1055 (largest loader listed for an MX5400/MX6000) and it shows 1,784# at 500mm. That doesn't fit the kg/lbs info I'm accustomed to seeing. What's up with that?

I just looked at the 4701's... Decided to go with the MX 5400 instead; only a few thousand more.

We have a 4240 where I work. I can move approx 2400 pounds with it of palatalized material, but I cant really get it off the ground, just get enough weight off to move.

I think the M or MX is getting a bit overkill, and I may simply need to rethink how to accomplish what I would like to do.

So after bringing my expectations into reality, it looks like the L4060 will be good value/ability upgrade.

Now to start shopping.

Well that didn't take long. Sheepfarmer turned me onto Aldermans a couple years ago. They went above and beyond when I was looking for a zero turn, and didn't disappoint this time either. They actually had to pull this tractor in from a dealer that is closer to me than they are, but I have never had a decent relationship with.

I ended up making a concession on the tires. I wanted R1, but they were unavailable within a reasonable time frame, so they cut me a deal on the R4. I'm going to groove them and if I am unsatisfied with that, Ill order some R14. Unless someone has direct experience going from R4 to R14 on this size tractor and can tell me to just get the R14 tires.

3 rear remotes and TnT kit should be here in a week or so and Ill install them.

I did get a chance to run it in the wood yard, It did what I expected it to despite having 0 counter weight but it does need some weight in the rear. I don't really want to load the tires so Ill either build or buy a weight box for the 3 point.

It JUST clears the garage door. Admittedly, it is larger than I envisioned.

Congratulations on your new toy. My FEL was a huge part of my decision. I am amazed how much I use it.

Without significant rear weight you will find the FEL just about useless.

I do not load tires either for multiple reasons so I have the maximum 3 cast iron weights on each rear wheel of my L6060. Still, without the weight box attached, it will not back up a slight incline on crushed rock unless in FWA. This with an empty (albeit somewhat heavy) 4-in-1 bucket.

It's a bit dangerous diving down my rather steep asphalt driveway with the FEL attached and nothing on the hitch because letting up on the hydro pedal just leaves a black mark.

I was able to do what I needed without any rear ballast, but I could tell the rear end was a bit light. This 4060 also has no issue lifting the rear trying to pick up a load where the 2650 struggled to accomplish the same thing.

Coming off heavy equipment after 20 years, Im no stranger to the need for rear ballast. I simply need to strike the line between enough, and too much. I just dissected the loader lift curves in the manual.... 1.6' forward of the pins, at approx. 2' off the ground is approx. 2314#. If I average a full cord of green, split firewood at 5000#, I should have no issues with face cords loaded in bulk bags. Of course there are exceptions based on species.....
