Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about adding a mesh on the front guard of my B2601. I was wondering how I would go about painting it after. If I buy the Kubota orange spray paint, can I just paint all over, overlapping over the already painted guard? Or would I need to first sand down the original guard?

Or should I just paint the mesh before welding it?

I had mesh welded on, then laid the whole thing on cardboard in the driveway and spray painted one side. Dry, flip and paint the other side.

ok good. So no sanding down the already painted metal then? And the paint sticks on perfectly?

It all depends on the quality you are looking for.

Weld first regardless.

The rattle can will work and look OK. It will not be a perfect match.

For a "perfect" job, after you are done, have it powder coated and baked on.

You need to remove any oils that are on the new steel. I would wash it with Simple Green on a hot sunny day, and then put it out in the sun to dry. Then put a self etching primer on both sides, and let it dry for a few hours, then spray with whatever paint that you want to use. I advise against powder coat, since if it gets a chip in it, then water will get under it and rust. There are some industrial powder coatings that don't crack and are chip resistant, but those are more expensive than the run of the mill powder coatings.

If painting.. I would sand or steel wool the existing painted part before applying new paint.

Red scotch bright... Rattle can will peel off of shiny kubota powder coat. Take a stroll around the dealer lot to see touch-ups gone south. I would suggest catalyzed factory paint.
