I will call this an initial review. I have 4hrs engine time with this grapple since this morning. I stopped because I have a pile of wood that’s max height for my loader. So tomorrow I will light it on fire. As it burns down I will add to it. I will probably bounce around a bit pointing out things I like and things I don’t about it so far. *so I did this on my phone and typed it all out with the intention of the pictures being in between the paragraphs however they all ended up inserting at the end for some reason. Sorry.

First look at it sitting on the pallet. You can see that HLA makes a beast of a product. 385lbs The upper tines are all gusseted. They put a protective cover over the cylinder which is blocking the cylinder front grease fitting. I’m going to pop it out and put A 90deg fitting in there. I’m about 98% positive that a tractor of this size won’t be able to damage this thing.

The 90 at the cylinder top hose actually came loose. It was installed so that it hit the top frame at full open and it “Lefty loosied” it. I noticed the oil right away.Went to the garage and tightened it up. No big deal.

It didn’t take long to knock the paint off the teeth. I do have some lumber and logs that have been sitting for so long that they are frozen into the ground. Some are still there.Pretty sure if I put this on a track loader or bigger tractor, I’d have been able to rip them out of the frost.

With this on the business end of the LA340 it sucks about 1/2 the lifting capacity; however I didn’t find that I couldn’t curl or lift whatever I managed to grab with the jaws today. I do have a pile of old concrete retaining wall pieces and abunch of large rocks to move once the ground gets harder so we will see what it can do with those.

I am living vicariously through these pics right now. This is on my Spring-order list, along with a chipper.
Are you pleased with it's performance?
Pic of your third function control?
Dealer or self installed?

dealer installed the 3rd function. I also forgot to add in the review, about using the 3 functions. The tractor doesn’t have the hydraulic flow to operate all 3 functions at the same time.

So I decided I didn’t like the hoses being loose at the loader end of the 3rd function. What was happening is the hoses for the grapple would fall down and get pinched at the bottom of the curl cylinder. Talked to the dealer and they gave me the 90’s and the pioneer couplers for the lines at the third function valve. My buddy and I cut the bracket and made A new one. It’s threaded to keep the 90s tight and then I put the female couplers on the bracket. If you scroll up a few post you will see how it was using the LP bracket.

Glad you are enjoying it. I haven't been able to use mine yet and my hoses go up into a half loop. Not sure how it will work once I start getting into things.

I regret not buying a grapple when I first purchased my tractor lol

Messed up my grapple hoses twice already in the first 2 hours of use.
First time my fault, second time I think the dealer tightened hose was loose.

I'm foreseeing: If I wreck something on my tractor, chances are it will be when using the grapple. lol

I think my only real complaint about the grapple is the weight.

So my guess if “90% sure my little bx couldn’t hurt the grapple” was wrong. Somehow I managed to bend one of the bottom tines. Not a lot. But just enough that the top one hits it. I hit it with a BFH to try and straightened it, not gonna happen with a hammer. I only noticed because the father in law was using the tractor (his first ever time and he did great) to move some brush and when we were doing a walkthrough talk through of how everything worked I noticed the bent tine. No idea what job or when it happened.

The BFH should cure what ails it.😄

I can imagine. I used to run the Land Pride SGC0548 48" grapple on my BX25 and it worked well for moving big logs around and it only weighed around 160lb. The EA Wicked 60 grapple I have on order for my MX weighs about the same are the HLA you're running at around 400lb.
