Just took delivery this week of my new M7060 HD12 and spent 6 hours each of the last 2 nights spraying our vineyard.

Very sweet ride but I have a question.

When I engage the PTO at idle as I'm moving along I seem to hear a bit of a rattle, not from the sprayer itself though. If I increase the revs a bit to 1000 for engaging it's still there but not as loud. Rattle is gone when I'm spraying at 1750. Is this normal with the hydraulic engagement set up? Never had this problem with my old M4500 with its very smooth hand lever clutch PTO engagement.

When you folks do mowing, how is the engagement? I would assume it would be way rougher engaging heavy mowing equipment than my sprayer?

At what rpm do you engage? I was told to do it at "lower" revs, whatever that means.

Dealer says not to worry, but.........

Have no idea about any rattle but I bet Kubota uses their wet pto clutch so engage at an idle or slightly above, just like your old one.

When I engage my mower at lower than 1700 RPM the PTO rattles hard. I typically engage the mower between 1800 & 2000 RPM. It seems to like that RPM range for engagement as the engagement is very smooth at that RPM range.

The way I look at it is, if the PTO is rattling hard it is uncomfortable. If the PTO engages smoothly without rattle then it is comfortable and therefor must be the correct engagement speed.

Keep in mind that your motor (smaller) is turning a much higher RPM than his (bigger) motor.

Maybe I should experiment with finding out at what PTO speed engagement would be the quietest?

Kind of contradicts easing it in slowly though..............

And higher PTO speeds would be tough on the numerous belts in my sprayer.

Are you running a roller pump right on the PTO with a chain to keep it from spinning? Could be the chain pulling tight when you engage the PTO?

Actually the 300 gallon pull fan sprayer unit is driven by a drive shaft turning numerous belts to drive the twin piston pump, agitator and fan. Universal joints are good.

The rattle definitely appears to come from the tractor.
