I have a new BX23S, trying to finish the 50 hour service. Trying to replace the hydro filter, on the 23S they have a armor plate to protect the fan which is good. However this plate restricts access to replace the hydro filter. An end cap wrench is not an option and a band style wrench can be no more than .75" wide. What are you guys using?

You are trying to remove the filter?

Old trick if you are limited on space for proper tools is to take a long flat head screwdriver and hammer it through the center of the filter, it will make a mess but give you the grip/leverage required.

When removing old filters, and filter damage is not a concern, I like using my large adjustable Channel-lock pliers. They've never failed me.

Remember, installing new cartridge filters, oil the seal, and hand tight only! Some tacky-grip gloves will aid in tightening if needed.

I like that old school idea, used to work great PH8 filters! Not an option though.

Can remove factory shield. I cut down a band wrench width so it would slide up between factory shield and filter. Filter wrenches as in other posts. Can additionally raise front of tractor, this will make more room and less fluid lost. Make sure you have the new filter already to go on, filled some with UDT2 and "O" ring oiled. Unless you are changing the entire HST oil system, then let old filter off to drain. If changing the entire HST system, remember to remove HST screen and clean. Don't gorilla the new filter on and will make it a little easier to remove next time. This goes for eng. oil filter also. See owners manual.

1st I raise the BX up on BH and bucket, toss in some axle stands, as I NEED some wiggle room underneath....
then I remove the front 2 bolts/nuts, loosen the rear 2 , tilt the guard down,
yes, the guard is a PITA but it does SAVE the HST fan !
Actually all 4 nuts/bolts aren't that bad when compared to the 3ph knob removal !

filled some with UDT2
Do not prefill the filter, it is not a suction filter, it is pressure fed. Anything you pour down the center of a filter is coming back out into the unit unfiltered.
