I have a 48" landpride box scraper... is there any reason for a grader attachment if I have the box??

A 'box' blade traps the material you're moving while a 'scraper' blade , allows materials to 'flow' or 'roll' off an end. Which you need to use , depends on what you're trying to do....

Like has been mentioned, depends on the job. The scraper will box scrape and load/move material well to fill ruts and depressions and bulk landscape, and when used in reverse the box scraper is a good bulldozer type blade - the material will push off the sides.
Grader blades are usually wider and are for finer touchup and finish work more than bulk moving and filling. But it won't do both, which a well operated box scraper can. Especially if there's an hydraulic top 'n tilt on it.

Thanks for the input... I have no need for one in the immediate future but one is listed locally for about 1/4 the new price so I don’t think I can pass it up

It's tough to find implements at the moment so it sounds like you can't go wrong with that purchase, particularly at the price you mentioned. There's a very nice and virtually new Land Pride GS1560 grading scraper for sale on Craiglist just an hour away and I'm very tempted but it's a bit on the small side for the MX. If it were the GS2584 model I would have bought it already. I have a box scraper and rear blade and want to buy a land plane or grading scraper for the gravel driveway. As others have mentioned, it's a different animal to a box scraper, but if you need one, you need one.

I spent five or six hours working on the common 200 yard driveway a couple of months ago using the rear blade and it's less than ideal. The driveway was way better when I was done, but I could have done an even better job in half the time or less with a grading scraper.

I bought a disc instead of renting one figuring I could use it for as long as I wanted and sell it again for the same price I paid for it. Go for it.

I think if it’s a good deal there should be nothing to hold you back. I have a grader/scraper, and just used it again today to put a nice finish on my gravel driveway again. It’s really as simple as lowering it to start, raise to end a section, and driving back and forth. It’s very helpful to be so simple when you have a long driveway to maintain.

Another benefit is that you can easily pull a wider grader/scraper since it doesn’t carry as much material and deposits it automatically.

I have both. If I had only one it would be the box scrape but for gravel road and dirt road/trail maintenance they both have their place.

it’s kind of like fixing a dent in a car fender, would you rather have a straight line sander or a DA sander? Hopefully you have both. They’re both sanders but they have slightly different uses.
