Getting old has its benefits and it’s drawbacks. Being wiser is one of the benefits, having one’s body not cooperate is another.

I found a new Kubota step on EBay and looked at aftermarket grab bars (which seem to be non-existant for MX tractors) , So I took a chance on the Kubota step, and a US Surplus HumVee grab bar.

i am not a welder...but I sure can drill and bolt. I have @$80 in materials and paint. I now have a much easier time getting on my MX.

The additional step is a little off as I whacked it while being real aggressive with my grappler in a log pile. I will remove it and hve a buddy weld it in the future. I’m happy with my upgrades.

Looks great! Does the new step up bolt along side of the factory step?
No sir.

I had to use a chop saw to cut the top mounting bracket off. Then I used a “2 pipe and vise to bend/twist the side arms it to fit the MX step angle, Once I was close I used a pair of 6” C-clamps to pull it in closer. The rest was drilling the holes while it was mounted. Thank goodness for right-angle drills.

Welding it would be ideal and obviously stronger. If I reinforced the side arms it shouldn’t flex/bend. It is lower than the frame, but aside from stupid stuff — like attacking a dozed pile of logs with a grapple — it should remain straight.

It does provide a wider first or last step (depending on the direction you are going). Dismounting my foot seems to always find the chassis frame before rhe top step. Guess the engineers had smaller feet Or go down right foot first.

Nice job. As many times you have to get up and down well worth the work to make it safer and convenient.

They can be handy on smaller tractors too!!! It's adjustable so it can be raised to accommodate the mower deck, grader blade, etc.
