The other day I was in the local Kubota dealer getting the usual excellent parts department treatment. (Shameless plug for Avenue Equipment). The parts guy pulled out the B7001 parts manual - no problem with grey market. It was quiet so he started talking a bit - asked me if I knew about the naming convention for Kubota engines.
He explained that after years in the parts department, he had just leaned the 'code'.
Seems the first letter of the engine code is based on first letter of the German word for the number of cylinders.
Z for zewi Z650 Z1100 2 cyl
D for drei D750 D1462 3 cyl
V for vier V3307 V1702 4 cyl.
Just a bit of trivia.
