Gearbox 'plug' near input shaft?

Having recently bought a project B5100E, my current concern is a clean, uncapped hole in the front of the gearbox.

When looking up from underneath through the access hole, I can see a shiny hole that clearly had something in it recently but is no longer there.

When looking towards the back, you can see the input shaft from the engine and then a hole just underneath and to the left (when looking towards the back). It is about 1 1/4" diameter and a bearing is visible through it inside the gearbox.

Is this where the driveshaft usually comes from in a 4wd? If so, can I simply plug it?

I hope that makes sense!

It's at the back of the part marked clutch housing but inside it- on the front plate of the gearbox.

I have attached a couple of photos but it was pretty dark so the shadows are quite heavy.

The unplugged or missing piece is fairly obvious up inside the void because it's so clean in comparison!

Cheers.

What's missing is "cap" P/N 66631-14620.
How is the oil level?
I would thing with that cap missing it would be really low if not empty.

If you can't get it in the UK let me know because it's still avalible here in the US. ;)

Excellent! Many Thanks for that.

I can't initially find them online here although somewhere must have them. Out of interest what kind of plug is it- a pressed core plug style or machined?

I'm thinking I can either machine something up or knock a standard core plug in but I can't seem to find any photos.

At least you've stopped me worrying something more important is missing!

As you thought, it's where the front driveshaft would start if it had one.

Doesent look threaded. Two blocks machined with an o ring groove,in such a way when blocks are tightened together the o ring expands out of the v groove. Onlt concern is keeping inner block from spinning. Two studs to tighten would solve that.
If it is a core plug, an accurate measurement and an auto parts store could possibly stock one. There are rubber expansion plugs as well, just dont know if oil will soften it

A standard metal freeze / frost plug will work, just measure the diameter of the hole, and it most likely will be a metric size.
