A few years ago I nearly lost my wife during a sudden cardiac emergency. On the day of her event, all on-duty fire units were already committed to another call. The first firefighter to arrive was off duty and immediately took over CPR, which I had already been performing for more than 15 minutes. Unfortunately, he did not have a defibrillator available. Several more critical minutes passed before a unit arrived with one.
That experience has stayed with me. My goal is to help ensure that off-duty and on-call firefighters have immediate access to portable defibrillators by equipping them with devices they can carry in their go-bags at all times.
I am currently running a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to purchase portable defibrillators for my local fire department in North Idaho. Any level of donation is sincerely appreciated. Thank you.
